I hope your summer is wonderful.
English 2: Write your presentation script for your I-Search project. You need to write one or two sentences about each of the following items:
- Why I chose my topic
- What I already knew
- What I wanted to find out
- How I conducted my research
- What I found out
- Where I can go from here (What I could do next if I chose to continue this research)
Also, final exams for our class are next Monday (Period 1) and Tuesday (Periods 3 & 4). No notes will be permitted. You will need to be able to do the following:
- Write an Academic Paragraph (know all the parts!)
- Explain Irony (know the three types: Dramatic, Situational, and Verbal)
- Define the following terms in your own words:
- Bigotry
- Class (as in social/economic class)
- Dehumanization
- Discrimination
- Injustice
- Oppression
- Prejudice
- Resistance
- Scapegoat
- Bring an SSR book or magazine to read after you finish testing. This will be part of your final exam grade!
English 4 & English 4 HP: Rest up for your final exams in our class tomorrow and Friday. You will need to bring your Importance of Being Earnest packet and your Literary Theory packet.
English 2: I-Search project final draft due tomorrow, Wednesday, 6/4! Bring all your I-Search materials, including journals, rough draft, and rubrics, to class tomorrow.
English 4 & English 4 HP: No homework.
English 2:

English 2: Continue to work on your I-Search project. Bring ALL of your materials to class tomorrow. Print out any electronic documents ahead of time.
English 4: No homework. If you missed today’s class, finish reading Act I of The Importance of Being Earnest.
English 4 HP: If you missed today’s class, finish reading Act I of The Importance of Being Earnest. Then write either a Marxist critique or a Feminist critique of Act I. (At least one paragraph!)
English 2: Work on your I-Search projects!
English 4 & English 4 HP: No homework tonight.
English 2: Review the rubric for the I-Search project. Work on the parts that you are missing!

The main characters in Earnest, Jack and Algernon, have each invented a friend (”Ernest” and “Bunbury”) who provides an excuse to get away from their responsibilities. Algernon uses the word “Bunburying” to describe the use of a false excuse to get out of something. Write a paragraph about a time that you “Bunburyed,” or about a “Bunburyist” you know.

English 4 & English 4 HP: Congratulations on finishing your Senior Project presentations! Treat yourself to a relaxing evening (at least in terms of English homework).

English 2: Conduct your I-Search interview if you haven’t already. Write up a transcript of the interview in which you show your questions and the interviewee’s responses.
English 4 & English 4 HP: Prepare for your Senior Project presentations.
English 2: Rewrite the first three paragraphs of your I-Search paper–you began these for the 5/6/08 homework assignment. Expand each paragraph to at least 4 or 5 sentences.
If you weren’t here in class today, you also need to write at least 1/2 page of the How I Conducted My Research section of your paper.
