English 2: Read and annotate the “Growing Rice” section of the Rice article (section III). Write a two-paragraph log–1 paragraph of summary, and 1 paragraph of your questions, comments, and response.

English 4: Work on your Senior Project. Stay calm!

English 4 HP: Read pages 1 & 2 of James Baldwin’s letter to Angela Y. Davis. (If reading online, read to the sentence “The secret is out: we are men!”) Write a two-paragraph log: 1 paragraph of summary, and 1 paragraph of your questions, comments, and response.

English 2: If you wish to apply for the June Jordan Poetry Prize, complete the directions on the Entry Application, email a copy of your poem to the prize address (on the application), and bring in your poem and application tomorrow.

3rd Period: Bring in a revised, nicely printed/typed copy of one of your poems.

English 4 & English 4 HP: Complete the Ambition Presentation Worksheet that I handed out in class today, and read through the Presentation Rubric on the back.

English 2, Periods 1 & 4: Revise one of your poems to make it stronger. Remove the verb “to be” wherever you can and replace it with stronger verbs.  Bring in a neat copy tomorrow.

English 4 HP: Write a 1-paragraph reflection about how Macbeth concluded. What are your thoughts and reactions? Why?

English 2: No homework tonight.

English 4 (Per. 5): No homework tonight.

English 4 HP:  Reread V.v.17-28 again several times. This is a complex and important passage! Then write two paragraphs:

  • Paragraph 1: Paraphrase. Translate Macbeth’s speech into your own words.
  • Paragraph 2: Response. What did you notice? What metaphors does Macbeth use? Why? Do you agree with his views about life?
