About HW Grades
Wondering what your homework grade means?
All assignments in my class are worth a certain number of points. Most nightly homework assignments are worth 5 points each. I use a check system to show the number of points earned.
- A check-plus means that you completely fulfilled the assignment in a way that showed a large amount of thought and effort. It’s worth full credit–usually 5 points. (Grade equivalent: A+)
- A check means that you completely or almost completely fulfilled the assignment. It’s worth 4/5 credit–usually 4 points. (Grade equivalent: B-)
- A check-minus means that you partially completed the assignment, but left a large amount undone, or else that you didn’t show very much thought or effort. It’s worth 3/5 credit–usually 3 points. (Grade equivalent: D-)
- If you received less than 3 points, I will write the number of points received–you will see a 2/5 or 1/5 at the top of your paper. (Grade equivalent: F, but it still contributes points toward your final grade.)
Please note that work loses 1/5 credit per day late. Work done in class on the day it’s due will rarely earn more than 4/5 of the total point value.
